BMW Brand Up 4.5 Percent Year-To-DateWOODCLIFF LAKE, N.J., April 1 /PRNewswire/ -- The BMW Group (BMW and MINI brands combined) reported year-to-date sales of 65,536 vehicles, a 7 percent increase over the 61,241 sold in the first quarter of 2004. The BMW Group also reported a decrease of 5 percent in March sales for 24,276 vehicles compared to the 25,545 sold in that month last year.BMW Brand Reports Sales Year-to-date, sales of BMW brand vehicles were up 4.5 percent for sales of 55,352 vehicles compared to 52,970 vehicles sold in first quarter of 2004. The company also reported an 11 percent decline in March sales of automobiles and Sports Activity Vehicles, to 20,149 vehicles compared to the 22,688 reported last March. The decline was not surprising, given that inventories of 3 Series sedans are at extremely low levels, in preparation for the launch of the all-new 2006 sedans in May. BMW Automobile Sales BMW's automobile sales dropped 18 percent in March, to 14,475 versus 17,733 in the same month a year ago. First quarter sales were down slightly, 3.6 percent, to 40,427 automobiles compared to 41,924 in the same period a year ago. BMW Sports Activity Vehicle Sales Year-to-date, sales of BMW Sports Activity Vehicles are up 35 percent for 14,925 vehicles versus the 11,046 vehicles sold in the first three months of 2004. March SAV sales were 5,674, compared to 4,955 vehicles sold in the same month last year, an increase of 14.5 percent. Certified Pre-owned Certified Pre-owned BMW sales were up 1.6 percent with 6,587 vehicles sold over the 6,486 sold last March, making it the best March ever. Year-to-date, the company reported sales of 16,878 CPO vehicles, almost even (-0.5 percent) with the 16,962 sold in the first three months of 2004. MINI Brand MINI Automobiles Demand for MINI brand automobiles was exceptionally strong as the division celebrated its third anniversary in the U.S. on March 22nd. March sales were the best ever recorded, for 4,127 cars versus 2,857 in March 2004, an increase of 44 percent. First quarter sales of MINI automobiles increased 23 percent with sales of 10,184 over the 8,271 sold in the first quarter of 2004.
